Description

Moving from Manchester to Criccieth, North Wales in 2005 afforded Keith the opportunity, once again, to work closely from landscape and seascape.

Drawings, paintings and relief sculptures have been his most prolific works over the last twelve years.

‘The relief sculptures I create are polychromatic incorporating Welsh slate, cement and then coloured using egg tempera. The pigments for much of the egg tempera are earth pigments collected from the ancient copper mine of Parys mountain, Anglesey.’

‘For several years we have been developing a private sculpture garden. The garden now presents many works including several large sculptures by Ted Roocroft.’
📚 There has been very little order in my life, so how can I have order in my autobiography?

‘Writing is easy. You sit there and I sit here. As we talk, I write down what we say. But there has been very little order in my life, so how can I have order in this autobiography?’

In youth, Keith Hamlett had no ambitions (‘I was a very bolshy, intractable, cultureless nineteen-year-old’), but was convinced that taking the right direction in life was of vital importance. His passions from an early age included classical music and climbing. At art school he discovered a third – sculpture – and at the age of thirty held his first one-man exhibition. Sculptures, paintings and drawings have dominated his life ever since. His firm belief that he is incapable of writing words that a reader can reconstruct as images has not stopped him from writing this memoir.
